Enjoy a 5.5-mile, easy to moderate hike at the north end of the Franklin Mountains – an area rarely explored. Bring 3 liters of water, snacks and sturdy hiking boots. There is a $5 FMSP fee and you can get that HERE. Dogs trained and socialized for people and other dogs are okay.

Driving directions to the trail head: From I-10 West take exit 162 Anthony/Chaparral NM404 exit; drive east 4.2 miles. At the exact place where the passing lane ends, turn right, open and close the green gate, drive 2/10ths mile to a flat parking area on the left.

From the east or northeast: From the Patriot Freeway /Hwy 54 Take the MLK Jr Blvd north for 8 miles, at the roundabout turn left onto Anthony Gap RoadNM404, Drive 4 ;miles and the green gate will be on your left.

There is a lot of traffic on this road, so use care and caution when slowing down and turning.
