Walk 2.3-miles along the old Butterfield Trail to the remaing adobe ruins of Fort Mason, the only water stop between the Rio Grande and Fort Cummings, a former U. S. It is located inside of Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument The walk is on relatively flat ground but there is no trail as such. If all agree, the group can choose to park closer to the fort for a shorter hike.
