Beginning at 10 AM sharp and ending at 4 PM, learn about Carlsbad Caverns, especially the impact humans have on this precious place. Become a VIP for the day and try your hand at removing lint. You will receive a vest, park badge, and the lint removal supplies necessary to help keep this Cavern in as pristine a condition as possible. Age 12 and up only.
At the end to the day, tour the Big Room with Pat Jablonsky for a final look at this amazing underground world. There are no entry fees because you will be a volunteer.
Meet at the entrance to the Visitor’s Center at the bat sculpture.
Pat Jablonsky is a retired museum curator/director who later finished her professional career working for the National Park Service. She is an experienced caver and explored numerous caves including those in Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Over the past 34 years, she has been involved in numerous research projects, including Chiroptera studies, ground sloth discovery and excavation from the Lechuguilla Cave, and the impact humans have on a cave environment. It is this last study that Pat is extremely passoniate. Every time we as humans enter a cave we impact that sensitive environment. One of many negative impacts is the common waste material, lint.
In case you prefer not to drive back to El Paso or Las Cruces on the same day as this field trip, know that there are good accomodations in Whites City and Carlsbad.

THANK YOU for “Lint Picking”!
