Stargazing at Fillmore Gap

May 2021 Star Chart

May 2021 Star Chart

Join COM board members Paulo Galvan and Eric Kappus on a stargazing trip to Fillmore gap, located between the Organ Mountains and Bishops cap. Tour guides will have their own telescopes but participants are welcomed to bring their own. We will meet at Rudy's BBQ on Artcraft (MAP) by the electric car charging stations at 7:45 pm to depart promptly at 8:00 pm. The drive to Fillmore gap takes approximately 30 min.

If you are coming from Las Cruces, take the Mesquite exit which is the road up to Filmore. Park on the side of the road once you get off the exit, turn towards the mountain, on the west direction of the highway. Questions? Contact Paul Galvan at 915-873-4717.

Bring water, snacks, lawn chairs, and if possible, green or red-light flashlights. Email Paulo Galvan at georocks30@gmail.com to RSVP.

This should be a great night for stargazing as there will be a new moon on May 11 meaning there won’t be much moonlight to obscure the stars. The weather report is showing clear skies.
