Hike Achenbach Canyon

Hike Achenbach Canyon and see large rock outcroppings, a cave and a dry waterfall. You will see great vistas of the Las Cruces region and the Organ Mountains. This is a moderate 5-miles round trip hike over uneven ground. Meet at I-10 Redd Road area at 7:45 am for carpooling/caravaning. (MAP) We leave promptly at 7:45 AM. Or meet at the trail head at 8:45 AM. This is a good beginner/intermediate hike and it is dog friendly if your dog has been trained and socialized. Bring water and pickup bags. Bring: 2-3 liters of water, snacks, sturdy hiking shoes/boots. Contact person: Carol Brown 915-630-1422.

Directions to Trail Head: I-10 west to I-25 North to Exit 1 (University Exit), Turn right, go 4.8-miles, turn right onto Soledad Canyon Road which turns to the left in 1/2 mile, go 3.5 miles more +/- and turn right onto Ladera Canyon road and go about 1/2 mile . There should be trash bins on the left, take the jeep road on the left to the parking area. It is a bit rough but go slow or park along the side.
