Join the Dean of Hiking, Carol Brown and hike the Schaeffer Shuffle/Loop 1 Trail in the Franklin Mountains State Park. This hike is around 4-miles and will take around 3-3 1/2 hours. It is a nice beginner/intermediate hike if you know you can hike the distance over uneven ground. Plan to arrive at the park at 8 AM, fill out a yellow envelope and put in the iron ranger, white copy goes on your windshield. There is a $5 per person Park fee, or use your Park pass. After paying, drive to the very end of the road where the picnic tables and bathrooms are. The hike is pet friendly if your dog is trained and socialized. Be sure that you bring water for the dog and pick-up bags. Bring 2-3 liters of water and some snacks. Wear good hiking shoes, dress appropriately and wear sunscreen. For more information, contact Carol Brown at 915-630-1424.
This hike is also sponsored by the El Paso Hiking Meet-up Group. COM strongly urges you to join this group.
