Celebration of Our Mountains CEO, Jim Tolbert, accepts the Mayor’s proclamation of the Silver Anniversary of COM. The proclamation reads:

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS:              For 25 years, Celebration of Our Mountains has sponsored events for hiking, biking, birding, climbing, photographing, geocaching and studying the natural wonders and wildlife, the geology, the archaeology and the history of the greater El Paso region of the Chihuahuan Desert; and

WHEREAS:              Celebration of Our Mountains offers educational field trips for persons of all ages; and

WHEREAS:              Celebration of Our Mountains promotes healthy recreation in our outdoors which aids the physical and mental health of all El Pasoans and combats obesity and diabetes; and

WHEREAS:              Celebration of Our Mountains strives to be the leader in building El Paso’s ecotourism by showcasing the beauty of our mountains, desert and wetlands thereby contributing to the El Paso economy; and

WHEREAS:              Celebration of Our Mountains has begun programs, especially suited for students of all grades, that teach science and take them to places of technological interest in our city thereby letting them see the opportunities that exist here for their future careers thus fighting brain drain; and

WHEAREAS:           Celebration of Our Mountains continues to promote the appreciation and preservation of the natural wonders of our place in the Chihuahuan Desert; and

WHEREAS:              Celebration of Our Mountains, a 501-c-3, non-profit organization, has grown from just a handful of events in 1994 to today’s fall program of over 40 events as well as events from January to June, including Earth Month; and, 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Mayor and Council of

The City of El Paso that August 24, 2019 through November 24, 2019 shall be known as the Silver Anniversary of Celebration of Our Mountains.
