Join Celebration of Our Mountains Board Director and geologist, Paulo Galvan, and take your 4x4 off-road with us to visit Tonuco Mountain (https://maps.app.goo.gl/fhqryng7KJkAjgg88).
Tonuco mountain is host to several mines and a great place to collect fluorite and other minerals. You'll also see beautifully preserved petroglyphs carved into the fallen rocks in the canyon on our way to the collection site.
Bring your flashlight, sturdy shoes, collecting bag, hammer, hat, and plenty of water. You will need a high clearance 4x4 off-road vehicle for this trip or carpool with someone with one.
Meet at Dairy Queen on Transmountain and Desert Blvd N (https://maps.app.goo.gl/LgP85Dy2BFV2QKSGA) at 7:00 a.m. to depart promptly at 7:15 a.m. The drive to Tonuco Mountain is approximately 1 hour.
