Enjoy a day of rock and mineral collecting along the foothills and arroyos of Red House Mountain near Hatch, New Mexico. Visiting Arizona Geologist, Dr. Victor Garcia will help co-lead and share valuable insights into modern mining techniques and the future of the industry in the Southwest. Jasper, fluorite, barite and quartz can be found in the area as well as beautiful hues of red and gray in silicified limestones.
Bring a hammer and collecting bucket along with plenty of water and a hat. High clearance vehicles only. (High-clearance usually refers to pick-ups, jeeps, and suv's) If you don’t have a high clearance vehicle, join us anyway. We can caravan to Hatch and we can carpool the last few miles of rough road.
Meet at the Dairy queen on the corner of Transmountain and N Desert Blvd.(https://maps.app.goo.gl/LgP85Dy2BFV2QKSGA ) at 8:00 am to depart by 8:15 and travel by caravan.
We will have lunch at Sparky’s in Hatch after. The drive to hatch is approximately 1 hour.
