Tour the Birthplace of the Atomic Age: Trinity Site in New Mexico

Visit the site where the first atomic bomb was tested at 5:29:45 a.m. Mountain Time on July 16, 1945. It was a successful detonation that led to the end of the war in the Pacific and ushered in the atomic age. Find Trinitite, the glassy residue left on the desert floor after the plutonium-based blast melted quartz, feldspar, microcline and smaller amounts of different substances. See the monument erected at the site of ground zero.

The trip will be led by Dr. Eric Kappus. Meet at the DQ gas station at Transmountain Road and Interstate 10 (MAP) at 5:30 AM sharp and drive for approximately 3 hours to the Stallion Gate of Trinity Site. Please carefully review the videos HERE. If you are the driver, you must have a photo id, vehicle registration and proof of insurance. If you are riding with someone, you must have a photo id.

On the way back home, those who want will stop at the Owl Cafe in San Antonio for some delicious chile cheeseburgers.
