Red House Mountain Foothills Rock and Mineral Collecting

Enjoy a day of rock and mineral collecting along the foothills and arroyos of Red House Mountain near Hatch, New Mexico. Jasper, fluorite, barite and quartz can be found in the area as well as beautiful hues of red and grey in silicified limestones. Bring a hammer and collecting bucket along with plenty of water and a hat. High clearance vehicles only. (High-clearance usually refers to pick-ups, jeeps, and suv's. Not generally the "mini" suv's.) It does make a lot of difference. Passenger cars are much closer to the ground and the suspension isn't designed for rough unpaved roads. (Car rentals in El Paso online.)

Meet at the Dairy queen on the corner of Transmountain and Desert Blvd. North (Map link below.) at 7:45 am to depart by 8 and travel by caravan. We will have lunch at Sparky’s in Hatch afterwards. For more information, email Paulo Galvan at georocks30@gmail.com.
