Hike to and explore the legendary Geronimo’s Cave in the Robledo Mountains north of Las Cruces. Geronimo's Cave is one hiking spot in the Robledo Mountains that carries a great deal of history. In the 1800s, as Geronimo was being pursued by U.S. soldiers, he is said to have escaped to this cave.
Meet at 8 AM at the Kohls parking area at 5680 N Desert Blvd., I-10 and Redd Road area (MAP). With the group, leave promptly at 8:05 AM. It is an hour’s drive to the trail head. Or you may meet us at the trail head at 9 am.
The 3-4 miles roundtrip hike is rated as moderate with some rocky sections along an arroyo. Bring 2 liters of water, snacks, sturdy hiking boot/shoes, and a flashlight,

Driving directions to the trail head: Take I-10 West to I-25 North to Exit 19, Radium Springs exit. At the stop sign turn Left onto Fort Seldon Road. At the junction, turn LEFT onto N Valley Road. Drive 1.4 miles and turn right onto a small dirt road, HayRide Road (a small sign is on the left). Travel 0.4 mile and turn left onto the levee road. Travel 0.3 mile +/- and pull off the levee to the right and park on the flat.
