The red line is the fault and the yellow box is an old stream bed that was abandoned after the last big earthquake.
This is a 3-stop field trip to view the Eastern Boundary Fault Zone of the Franklin Mountains and to learn about its recent earthquake history. The first stop will be at the Transmountain Road overlook point, the second stop at the El Maida Shrine (6331 Alabama St.), and the final stop will be at Johnson Basin Park (on Lincoln Ave.). We will caravan together to the 2nd and 3rd stops. This is a great opportunity to learn about the earthquake history of El Paso. Dr. Eric Kappus of Southwest University will be your guide.
The trip is limited to 10 people. Please contact diegotolbert@gmail.com for a reservation. If more convenient for you, there is an earlier tour that begins at 9 AM.
Meet at the picnic area/overlook on Transmountain Road, just uphill and west of the Archaeology Museum. See image below.
