flier_mtfranklin (1).jpg

Three car stops and an easy 5-10 minutes walk up a trail at the end of the canyon will introduce you to the geology of the Franklin Mountains. You will also hear some readings from Tom Lea's book, "Old Mount Franklin." This trip will bring the writings of El Paso's Tom Lea to life, as you stand at the base of Old Mount Frankin. You will even have the chance to fit 600 million years of time between your two fingers!

Make sure to bring plenty of water, as well as proper footwear and attire. Upon signing up for this trip you will receive a PDF of Tom Lea's book, "Old Mt. Franklin" so that you can follow along on your phone during the readings if you like. You can also download the file (Old Mount Franklin by Tom Lea) linked below.

Meet at the gate to McKelligon Canyon just off Alabama Street. (MAP)
