Enjoy a moderate loop hike of 4 miles (3-hours) into Soledad Canyon and Bar Canyon and Falls in the Organ Mountains east of Las Cruces. You will get scenic views of the Organ Mountains, see Chimney Rock, a waterfall, and the ruins of a historic homestead.
The canyons are also the home of a large diversity of desert plant species. Many will be blooming now that it is spring.: Mariola, Creosotebush, Skunkbush Sumac, Mesquite, Mormon Tea, Feather Peabus, Verbena, Desert Marigold, Blackfoot Daisy and much more.

Meet near the Cabela's Outdoor Gear Store, 6450 N Desert Blvd Suite B-107. (MAP) Look for my Gold Honda with the green business signs on the doors. We will leave promptly at 8 am. It is a good 45 minute drive to the trail head. Las Crucesans may meet us at the trail head around 8:50-8:55 AM/
If you prefer not to carpool/caravan, here are driving instructions to the Soledad/Bar Canyon Day Use Area:
Take I-10 west towards Las Cruces, then take I-25 North..
Take exit #1 University Exit, turn right onto University--which eventually becomes Dripping Springs Road--go 4.8 miles and turn Right onto Soledad Canyon Road. (Watch to the right for a brown sign that says
Talavera, you will turn right here). In half a mile +/- the pavement turns Left, stay on the paved Soledad Canyon Road for another 4.5 miles,
the road ends at the parking area.
