Hike to the crash site of a Cessna UC-78 that crashed sometime during WW2 on a training mission. This aircraft was nicknamed the "Bamboo Bomber" because of the extensive use of wood in the fuselage. Despite the nickname, a significant amount of metal items and even some wood spar remain in place for us to look at. You will head off trail up an arroyo with loose rock, cacti, thorny bushes and legugilla.
The hike will consist of heading up an arroyo to the end of it and will have some elevation gain, but not too much, maybe 600 feet total gain in a mile.
Bring at least a liter of water, wear strong hiking shoes. Gloves and long pants recommended. Also bring a hat and use sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun. This hike is on the eastside of the mountains, so there is essentially no shade. Bring snacks and any medication that you personally need. Bring a mask although you probably won’t need to wear it while hiking. Due to the terrain, this hike is not pet friendly. The hike should last 2 to 3 hours.
