Hike to the El Paso Tin Mines

Tin Mine Historic Photo.jpg

Join us on this 6+ miles round trip hike to see and hear some history of our region! You will be visiting the only tin mines in the United States. Learn about the structure and formation of the Franklins, the geological history that played a significant role of the creation of tin, as well as the history and excavation of the old tin mine. This 6.5-miles round trip is generally easy as well as dog friendly, so don't forget your furry friends! Remember to bring your sunscreen, proper gear, lunch and plenty of water. Also bring snacks and any medication that you may personally need. Bring a mask. Meet in the parking lot of Chuck Heinrich Park. (MAP)

This hike is rated a moderate difficulty, mainly for the distance. Please bring sufficient water (2+ liters), snacks and good walking shoes for rocky trails. There will be an opportunity to crawl back into part of the mine that is dark, so again dress appropriately and bring a flashlight if you have one. The hike to the mines has some elevation gain, but after leaving the mines, its is mostly downhill.
