Join renowned hiker, Carol Brown, on this 8-miles hike along a portion of the Sierra Vista Trail just off Anthony Gap road at the north end of the Franklin Mountains State Park. The rocks there are Pennsylvanian and Permian in age which means that you might see some good fossils of corals, sponges, and other sea creatures.
Meet at 8:30 AM and start hiking at 8:45 AM. Bring: 3-4 liters of water, snacks and a sack lunch to eat on the trail. This hike is dog friendly if your dog has been trained and socialized. Bring pick-up bags and water for your dog. Meet at the Trail Head on NM404/Anthony Gap Road: Directions: From I-10 West take Exit 162--Anthony/Chaparral NM404. Drive east 4.2 miles.At the exact place where the passing lane ends, turn right onto a dirt road. Go through a green gate. Drive 2/10 of a mile to a flat parking area on the left. If you are coming from the east or northeast side: Take MLK Jr. Blvd north for 8 miles to the roundabout, turn left onto NM404 Anthony Gap Road, drive 4 miles and the gate will be on your left.
