The El Paso Archaeological Society hosts Mark Howe who will discuss the recent work along the American Canal and the exposure of some of the structures, artifacts and history of the Smeltertown area. Discussion will show some structures that were found and artifacts and work that is being conducted in the area of the American Canal and American Dam. Additionally, we hope to have several guest speakers who will talk about the history of living in or relatives who lived there during the time of Smeltertown’s existence.

The presentation is free, open to the public, and takes place at the El Paso Museum of Archaeology, 4301 Transmountain Road, El Paso 79924. MAP

Biography: Mark Howe is the Cultural Resources Specialist for the United States Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission (USIBWC) in El Paso, Texas. He has BA degrees from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, Arizona State University and a MA from UTEP in History. He is currently working on another MA through the Harvard Extension School and several manuscripts on the New Deal projects of the IBWC and the CCC in California.
