Fly the unfriendly skies of United to the beautiful Big Island of Hawaii. The approximate length of the flight from El Paso to Hilo is just 13 hours if you aren’t bumped from your seat or dragged out of the airplane. After getting lei-ed at the Hilo International Airport, you will prepare for your climb to the top of Mauna Kea by first deep sea diving 19,700 feet below the water’s surface. Mt. Everest is the highest mountain if measured from sea level to summit – 29,035 feet. However, Mauna Kea from its underwater base to its tippy top is 33,500 feet, nearly a mile taller than Everest. After your very deep-sea dive, you will begin to climb the rest of Mauna Kea. However, you can cheat and drive to the top where, after 2 short hours of driving, you can visit the Mauna Kea observatory. You may want to bring your oxygen tanks since, at the summit, there is 40% less oxygen than at sea level. Deep sea equipment and oxygen tanks are available for rent. Best wishes.
