Please join Leasburg Dam State Park Ranger and Interpreter Alex Mares for a guided, moderate 2mi hike and experience the diverse environments, wildlife, geothermal springs, Fall weather and learn about a different topic each week. From learning about the different Chihuahuan Desert Plants and Peoples that have made this area their home over the centuries, what plants were used by native peoples for food, clothing and medicine, Juan de Oñate and the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro - to entering restored riparian areas that contain up to 90% native vegetation and learn about ongoing salt cedar removal efforts. Leasburg Dam State Park was recently designated an IBA - Important Birding Area by the National Audubon Society - so Fall birding should be excellent.
